Eric Carle (*25. jún 1929, Syracuse, New York, USA) je uznávaný ilustrátor a autor kníh pre deti.
Je autorom brilantne ilustrovaných obrázkových kníh s inovatívnym dizajnom pre najmenšie deti. Jeho najznámejším dielom je leporelo Nenásytná húsenička (The Very Hungry Caterpillar), ktorá si "vyjedla" cestu do sŕdc miliónov detí. Táto milá knižočka bola preložená do šesťdesiatich piatich jazykov a bolo predaných viac ako 46 miliónov výtlačkov. Po prvýkrát kniha vyšla v roku 1969 a odvtedy Eric Carle ilustroval viac ako sedemdesiat kníh a väčšinu z nich aj sám napísal, a mnohé z nich sa stali bestsellermi.
Vyštudoval prestížnu školu Akadémiu výtvarných umení v Štuttgarte. Rozhodol sa vrátiť a žiť v USA, kde sa narodil a žil do šiestich rokov. Začal pracovať ako grafický dizajnér a jeho kariéra bola veľmi úspešná, dlhé roky bol umeleckým riaditeľom reklamnej agentúry.
Eric Carle má dve dospelé deti a žije na Floride.
