Evropská unie a Svatý stolec

Evropská unie a Svatý stolec jsou dva specifické subjekty mezinárodního práva. Jejich vztahu byla věnována mezinárodní konference, kterou 6. května 2025 uspořádala Právnická fakulta Univerzity Karlovy ve spolupráci s Arcibiskupstvím pražským. Podle většinového mínění šlo v evropském měřítku o první akci svého druhu. Příspěvky, které tam zazněly, zaznamenává tato kniha.
Svatý stolec není členem EU a ani jedna ze stran jeho členství nezamýšlí. Vztahy mezi oběma subjekty jsou ovládány mezinárodními smlouvami, v nichž nezřídka za Svatý stolec jedná Vatikánský městský stát, například v otázkách ekonomických a měnových. Vztah obou subjektů má i značný duchovní rozměr vyplývající z postavení Svatého stolce jakožto vrcholu hierarchie katolické církve.

The European Union and the Holy See are two specific entities of international law. Their relationship was the subject of an international conference organized on May 6, 2025 by the Faculty of Law of Charles University in cooperation with the Archbishopric of Prague. According to most experts, it was the first event of its kind on a European scale. The speeches made there are included in this book.
The Holy See is not a member of the EU and neither party intends its membership. Relations between the two entities are governed by international treaties, in which the Vatican City State often acts on behalf of the Holy See, for example in economic and monetary matters. The relationship between the two entities also has a significant spiritual dimension resulting from the position of the Holy See as the top of the hierarchy of the Catholic Church.
